The pH test detects the presence of acidic or alkaline substances in urine, with a normal range between pH 4.0 to 9.0. Values below 4.0 or above 9.0 may suggest that the sample has been tampered with, as it indicates the presence of an acidic or basic compound.
The Specific Gravity (SG) test is used to check for sample dilution, with normal levels ranging from 1.003 to 1.030. Values lower than 1.003 or higher than 1.030 are indications of adulteration or dilution of the specimen. An indicator is used to detect the ionic concentration in the urine, with color changes from dark blue to blue-green for urine with low ionic concentration and green or yellow-green for urine with higher ionic concentration.
The OXI test is used to identify oxidizing agents like bleach or peroxide in urine.
The NIT test is used to detect commercial adulterants such as Klear and Whizzies. Normal urine samples should not contain nitrite traces. Positive results for nitrite indicate the presence of an adulterant.
CRE is used to check for dilution and flushing, which are commonly used to evade drug testing. Low creatinine levels may suggest urine dilution.
GLUT tests for the presence of aldehydes like glutaraldehyde, which are not normally found in urine. Detecting glutaraldehyde is a sign of urine tampering.
